When William Findley met with real estate agents recently about selling his four-bedroom home in Amherst, NY, he soon realized that the standard 6 percent commission would wipe out any profit. "I might even end up owing something," said Findley, 72, an account executive at a software company, explaining that he had accumulated little equity since buying the house two years ago.
